The Dr. Lou's Review

A great friend of the band came out to our most recent show and put together a very nice write up for us.

"March 5, 2016 Dr. Lou's Place in Roebling, NJ is one of the coolest places you may have never heard of. First impression: the place is a vintage neighborhood bar. The food is very good, the staff is friendly and professional, and drinks prices are most reasonable. Your second impression is the one which separates Dr. Lou’s from the standard. A live stage is set on the far side fairly equipped with the instrumentation needed to ferment the magic ingredients of moments, people, and octaves. As the popular music industry is currently in the dark ages of mindless entertainment, I continue to be astounded by the quality of musicianship that has been on Dr. Lou’s stage. Last night was not an exception. The Elwood James Band, no stranger to Philadelphians and local radio, has been on a mission to extend their fan base into the burbs.

The rock and roll virtuoso of musicians Denny James and the Vescio’s (Vinnie A., Vinnie C., and Anthony) can not be overstated. Of special note, is that the Elwood James Band was selected to appear on the prestigious 2016 Relix Magazine’s CD sampler with festival favorites Tedeshi-Trucks Band and Twiddle (http://www.relix.com/media/audio/january_february_2016_relix_magazine_sampler).

Last night, EJB played two sets of the good music. If you are not familiar with the EJB original songs, the covers will give you an idea of their dynamic range - Dear Prudence (awesome harmony), Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Denny showing superior guitar work), Shakedown Street (played with verve and authority) and a debut of Marley’s Jammin (I love the band’s extended jam leading up to the lyrics). Considering the music mecca that is Dr. Lou's Place and his mission of magic moments, a few of the locals joined in with respect for the band.

As for EJB’s own material, just listen to those experiencing the EJB for the first time, trying to figure out the rock band who originally played that song and how good it sounds. Elwood James Band is what it is!

Special respect to Dr. Lou's venerable house band: The Privelged Few.

Congratulations to Jim for the promotion. I have only been in Dr. Lou's a handful of times, and Jim has always been a most welcoming person."
